Walking into the Rising Sun

This is magic. I could think of no other description.

We were staying near the coast, so a walk on the beach at sunrise the next day sounded like a great idea. So we set the alarm and headed out early to watch the sunrise.

Marvel and magic were my thoughts as we stopped on the shore and watched the sun reflect on the clouds just moments before it’s appearance on the horizon. It was like a great painting in the sky, looking at the pink colors and shadows on the dark wispy clouds announcing the imminent appearance of this incredible ball of fire. Watching as it slowly started to rise above the ocean it seemed you could feel the power of the world spinning around. There is something symbolic about the sunrise; it is a fresh start to a new day and new possibilities. To me this is representative of a new start to a new chapter in our life. What’s incredible, this is a spectacular event that happens each and every day.

Experiencing and living in this moment, standing on the Atlantic Ocean, was like a direct spiritual connection with the earth and spirit. It was powerful watching the sun climb into the sky, while listening to the power of the waves breaking as they approach the shore. When I closed my eyes, I even experienced the stress leaving my body. For this moment, there is no stress or worries, I am just experiencing the joy of being alive and living on this planet.

According to Wikipedia, the Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. It is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. Its diameter is about 109 times that of Earth, and its mass is about 330,000 times that of Earth, accounting for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. About three quarters of the Sun’s mass consists of hydrogen; the rest is mostly helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon, and iron.

Just think, our Sun is the source of energy for life on earth. It creates the perfect temperature and climate so we can exist. Without it there would not be life on earth. So it is natural to me that the sun provides us with another spiritual connection.

The enormous effect of the Sun on earth has been recognized by man since the beginning of time. The Sun has been regarded by some cultures as a deity. While some early cultures worshiped the Sun, most every current major religion and their calendars pay homage to it. The rotation of Earth and its orbit around the Sun are the basis of the solar calendar, which is the predominant calendar in use today.

A well-known verse in Christianity in Genesis 1:14 reads “And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years”.

Over the years some people have even asked, could God be the Sun? Without the Sun there would be no creation, life or death.

No matter what your beliefs, getting outside and experiencing the wonder of our universe, nature and yes the Sunrise or Sunset, is truly magic.

So I urge you, grab a family member, or friend, or go solo; get outside and find a place to watch the sunrise. It just might connect you and bring a little magic into your day. Are you in?
